She spent a decade in the classroom as an elementary school educator helping children reach their highest potential. Angela has also served as an Adjunct Professor of English at Weber State University for over a decade. Her research contributions include work on suicide prevention grants and community partnerships to improve health equity.Her leadership extends to community initiatives, including her role as the Director of the Ogden United Promise Neighborhood, where she spearheaded efforts to support children's holistic development. Currently serving as the Program Manager for SelectHealth, Angela leads efforts to address health disparities for caregivers, patients, and communities. Her role involves strategic planning, continuous improvement, and education on health disparities.Angela's multifaceted career, from mentoring teachers and leading educational initiatives to managing healthcare projects focused on addressing critical disparities to leading on critical issues as a city councilor, showcases her versatility and adaptability. Whether it's teaching children or spearheading legislation on Capitol Hill, Angela will always bring a multifaceted approach to solving complex issues.Active community engagement is a hallmark of Angela's life. She serves in many roles on legislative committees, human rights commissions, and local boards, emphasizing a dedication to addressing issues at both grassroots and policy levels.Angela Choberka is a staunch advocate for a government rooted in trust, recognizing its essential role in fostering a healthy democracy. Recognizing the harm caused by politicization and polarization, Angela is dedicated to working hard, working together, and, most importantly, working for the community.

Angela's Top Issues

In her day job, Angela analyzes, researches, and develops initiatives to tackle the complex challenges facing our community. Her experience on the Board of Health for Weber and Morgan counties has given her a deep understanding of the public health issues that affect families. She believes that the key to improving community health lies in addressing root causes, rather than waiting to respond to costly and harmful outcomes. Throughout her career, Angela has worked to reduce disparities in education and healthcare—disparities that often stem from where a person is born, lives, works, and plays. While these challenges are deeply rooted, Angela is committed to reshaping the future by ensuring that every aspect of a community supports its residents' ability to thrive.

Community Health

Growth is inevitable, but we must ensure it happens intentionally, with quality of life as our priority. Everyone should earn a livable wage that allows them to afford a quality place to live. We need to support policies and innovative approaches to growth that prioritize community well-being, not just economic expansion. While attracting resources like grocery stores requires a certain population level and market appeal, we can meet that challenge by fostering thoughtful, balanced growth that benefits everyone.

Growth is inevitable, but we must ensure it happens intentionally, with quality of life as our priority.

Housing

Having a fulfilling, well-paying job close to home allows you to spend more time doing what you love and being with your loved ones—this should be our ultimate goal. The people of Weber County deserve access to opportunities that enable them to thrive. We can implement state and local incentives to bring these opportunities closer to home, but we must ensure we're measuring their long-term impact. Too often, we offer incentives only to lose the jobs five years later. What does that do for our families in the long run? Is it truly worth the investment? Additionally, we must consider how we're supporting the smaller businesses that have invested in our communities over time without those incentives. We must listen to these stakeholders and find meaningful ways to support them.

Jobs & The Economy

Public safety personnel, including police officers, firefighters, and EMTs, join these professions to make a positive impact in our communities. However, the systems they operate within can sometimes perpetuate division and inequitable treatment, particularly for underrepresented or marginalized groups. These systemic issues need to be examined and reformed to ensure fairness for all. It's important to recognize that some local efforts are already making strides, even if they aren't labeled as "reform." For instance, the Ogden Police Department created a homeless advocate role and established a department that provides trauma-informed outreach to those living unsheltered in Ogden. This initiative focuses on building trust and relationships and helping individuals navigate the system to find housing—a process that takes time and care. I want our police officers to feel safe, supported, and like we all want them to thrive.
